Although Pukekos are laboured and reluctant flyers, they are good waders, swimmers and runners.
Predators kill 25 million native birds each year!
You can help our native birds and bush by cutting short the life cycle of predators.
Set traps for mice and rats, regularly check the traps and change the bait.
Fantail or Piwakawaka use their broad tails to change direction quickly while hunting for insects. They sometimes hop around upside-down amongest tree ferns and foliage to pick insects from the underside of leaves. Their main prey are moths, flies, spiders, wasps and beetles, although they sometimes also eat fruit.
For over 20 years, Kiwi Conservation Club (KCC) has been teaching kiwi kids about New Zealand's amazing wildlife and wildplaces.
